Beautiful Names of Allah Part 2: Security, Guardianship, and Might

In the first part of our series, we explored the names of Mercy, Sovereignty, and Peace. As we continue our journey through the Asma-ul-Husna, we move into attributes that describe Allah’s protection over us and His unmatched power over all creation.
Understanding these names provides a different kind of tranquility—one rooted in the certainty that we are never alone and that we are under the care of the ultimate Authority.
6. Al-Mu’min (المؤمن) - The Giver of Security / The Granter of Faith
Al-Mu’min is the source of all security and peace. He is the One who places faith in the hearts of the believers and protects them from fear and oppression.
- In the Quran: "He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith (Al-Mu’min)..." (Surah Al-Hashr, 59:23)
- Living the Name: When you feel afraid or anxious about the future, turn to Al-Mu’min. Realize that true security comes from Him alone. Strive to be a person from whom others feel safe—as the Prophet ﷺ said: "A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe."
7. Al-Muhaymin (المهيمن) - The Guardian / The Overseer
Al-Muhaymin is the One who witnesses, guards, and preserves all things. He is the watchful protector who sees everything, from the movement of the stars to the hidden thoughts in your heart.
- In the Quran: "...the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer (Al-Muhaymin)..." (Surah Al-Hashr, 59:23)
- Living the Name: Knowing that Allah is Al-Muhaymin should bring both comfort and consciousness (Taqwa). You are never forgotten, and your good deeds are never lost. At the same time, we should be mindful of our actions, knowing He is the ever-watchful Guardian.
8. Al-Aziz (العزيز) - The Almighty / The Self-Sufficient
Al-Aziz is the One who has ultimate power and strength. He is invincible and cannot be overcome. Yet, His might is always coupled with wisdom.
- In the Quran: "...the Overseer, the Exalted in Might (Al-Aziz)..." (Surah Al-Hashr, 59:23)
- Living the Name: We often seek honor and strength from people, but true honor (Izzah) belongs to Allah. If you want to be strong, connect yourself to Al-Aziz through obedience. It reminds us that no matter how powerful a challenge seems, Allah is more powerful.
9. Al-Jabbar (الجبار) - The Compeller / The Restorer
Al-Jabbar has two beautiful meanings. One is the Compeller, whose will always prevails. The second, and perhaps most touching, is the Restorer—the One who mends what is broken. He repairs our hearts when they are shattered.
- In the Quran: "...the Exalted in Might, the Compeller (Al-Jabbar)..." (Surah Al-Hashr, 59:23)
- Living the Name: If you are feeling broken or defeated, call upon Al-Jabbar. He is the One who can heal the deepest wounds and put the pieces of your life back together.
10. Al-Mutakabbir (المتكبر) - The Supreme / The Majestic
Al-Mutakabbir is the One who is supremely Great. This name is unique to Allah, as He is the only One who truly possesses all greatness and perfection.
- In the Quran: "...the Compeller, the Superior (Al-Mutakabbir)..." (Surah Al-Hashr, 59:23)
- Living the Name: This name is a cure for arrogance. When we realize that only Allah is truly Great, we find it easier to be humble with His creation. We acknowledge our smallness in the presence of His absolute Majesty.
